Fostering and adopting a child is one of the most meaningful callings a family can answer. But many parents in Romania are exhausted on several levels, quietly carrying secondary trauma, caregiver burnout, and the daily weight of helping a wounded child heal. We thank God that, this summer, several of these families were able to go the ReFresh family camps held by our Romanian partners.
ReFresh camps bring adoptive and foster families together for a few days of worship, devotionals, and intentional community — space for parents to breathe, to be cared for, and to reconnect with their children away from the pressures of daily living. The goal of these camps is simple: to build stronger, steadier families, better equipped to offer the attachment and emotional regulation their children need.
June's and July's ReFresh camps brought together 158 participants, including families, staff, and volunteers. Twenty-one families participated in support groups and 43 volunteers were trained in trauma-informed care. Many put that training to immediate use serving at camp.
As participants return home, please pray with us that God would often bring to mind what they have learned, and that parents would use it as they care for their families! Please also pray that parents will find these new tools immensely helpful as they meet their day-to-day family needs.
Thank you for sustaining these dear ones with your prayers. We pray that God would supply our partners' financial needs as they focus on building families that are better equipped to meet their ongoing challenges. Your prayers are truly invaluable!
